Volunteers

Volunteers are a critical part of our work. We make an effort to allow you to do something that's not only helpful to us, but is of interest to you.

We are currently in need of the following assistance:

  1. Grantwriter. We are seeking a grant/proposal writer to fund our sexual minority health program in Ghana, and expand it to Uganda. In particular, we seek to fund a needs assessment survey in the capital city of Kampala, Uganda. We have prospective donors identified and need assistance with developing an inquiry letter and proposal.

    Grantwriter will assist with :

    - Determining the goals and objectives of the project
    - Substantiating the need for the program
    - Determining the precise procedure that the organization intends to use to carry
    out the program objectives
    - Help design procedure for program evaluation
    - Assist withbudget development

  2. Fundraising is our biggest challenge and greatest need. It's hard to ask people for money out of the blue, but if you have a specific issue or campaign such as our current campaign to help 7 people in Ghana who have really been hurt not only by their illnesses, but by discrimination and ostracism from friends and family, it helps. Details on our campaign to help these 7 Ghanains
  3. Volunteer coordinator. We are getting inundated with requests for people wanting to help. This is great-but most people have specific interests or skills so it's really important to respond to each person individually and tailor something that suits them and us.

Unfortunately it can take more time just to respond and coordinate a volunteer than it does to just go off and do some work yourself. But as we grow we know that this will not be the case. If you think you would be good at coordinating volunteers we would love to talk with you. Specifics of this role involve responding to interested volunteer requests, matching up our needs with their interests, and keeping track of work requests and volunteer time spent.

  4. Writing research and position papers similar to the ones already done on the G8 Summit and how free trade agreements are affecting access to medicines.

Topics can be both driven from our end or proposed on your end. Topics should be related to health care in developing countries (primarily sub-Saharan Africa at this time) and we are especially interested in marginalized populations.

Volunteers can work 'virtually' and are able to commit to a schedule that fits their needs. If you are interested in assisting us, send us an email at volunteer@healthequityproject.org!

In your email, please indicate your location, your area of volunteer interest, any applicable skills or experience, and attach a resume if possible.
